Visit To The Great Wall Of China

The Great Wall of China, which stretches over 6000 km., is symbolic of the country's unity. The width of the wall is nearly 5.8 meters and has a height of around 7.8 meters. The Great wall was built in sections to safe guard the northern boundaries of the Chinese Empire from the invasions of Mongol and Manchurian nomadic tribes.

As per the archaeological records, the first part of the wall was built in 200 BC and afterwards, each Chinese dynasty kept extending the wall. At every 50 meters of the wall, the lookout towers were constructed throughout the length of the wall. It during the Qin Dynasty, the individual states of China were united and the different sections of the wall were connected together to form one complete structure.

The archaeologists, even today, are discovering new portions of the wall and hence, one cannot determine the correct length the wall. It is very interesting to know that the wall which runs thousands of kilometers across China is not visible from the moon. No astronaut could report that the wall could be visible from the orbit of the Earth. However, it is not a denying fact that the Great Wall of China has become more than the historical monument; it is now cherished by people around the world as the most amazing structure which man has created.
